Join us this spooky season, on the build-up to Halloween, for a spooky evening of fine dining and ghosts. A haunting evening with 2 or 3* Course Dinner, Ghostly Tour and an intimate Paranormal Investigation at the 50 Restaurant, Looe.

The chefs at 50 Restaurant have created a fantastic Halloween-themed fine dining menu especially for the evening. Your ticket includes your choice of Starter and Main Course, with the option to add a delicious Dessert Course to complete your Halloween feast.

About the Evening

Join us at the 50 Restaurant in East Looe for a Halloween-themed dinner and an evening that grows darker as the night unfolds. Following dinner, guests will be led into the old streets of Looe for a half-hour haunted ghost walk, exploring some of the town’s eerie history and local tales, before returning to 50 as the doors are closed and the paranormal investigation begins.

Over the years, both current and former restaurant staff, as well as local residents, have independently reported remarkably similar unexplained activity within the building. Stories describe the apparition of a mysterious figure wearing a tall hat, along with unexplained tapping and rapping, strange sounds, and objects apparently moving without explanation. As Halloween approaches, you can join us as we attempt to make contact with who—or what—may be haunting 50 Restaurant.

  • Participate in Paranormal Investigations and hear about the unexplained encounters experienced by staff and former residents.

  • Set up and take part in a series of paranormal experiments throughout the evening.

  • Join a spooky Ghost Walk through the streets of East Looe, exploring some of the esoteric and macabre tales from the town's history.
  • Enjoy a two-course Halloween Dinner, included in the ticket price and served at the start of the evening, with an optional dessert course available as an add-on.

  • Pre-select your meal choices when purchasing your tickets, choosing your starter and main course, with the option to add a dessert.

  • Drinks are not included in the ticket price, but will be available to purchase throughout the evening.

Hauntings

Staff at 50 have witnessed and sketched a figure appearing to them in the restaurant and adjoining alleyway passage, which accesses the rear stores and residential apartments above. Shown here in a staff sketch, we can't help but wonder if they are encountering ‘Josiah’ - a gentleman from the 1800s who is said to haunt Higher Market Street through to the junction of Tower Hill.

‘Josiah’ was an elderly gentleman in a long black alpaca coat and very tall silk hat, who stalked around East Looe on his own devout mission.

Known locally as ‘Long Sleever’, he would stop children and ask if they had been good and attended church. The correct response of “yes, sir” would be rewarded with a sweetie, but anything deemed wrong was met with the loud and harsh exclamation of...

“The Devil will have you!”

Quite a frightening figure by all accounts. His shape, the long coat and sleeves, plus top hat, is very distinctive. Could this be one of the presences encountered in 50? Jonathan actually cosplayed as Josiah one New Year's Eve, wandering East Looe’s backstreets with a large stick, terrorising anyone who said they didn’t attend church... there were plenty. Josiah is said to haunt the same lanes and side alleyways, looking for blasphemers, so watch out!

The 50 restaurant is in East Looe and is easily found on Higher Market street.

Parking can be found in the East Looe Carpark, beside the main bridge, then a short walk down Fore Street to Higher Market street.

Matt Bear Clark

Paranormal Investigator, international Ghost Story writer and game creator; a companion on many a Ghost Hunt and regularly part of the research and writing team on Shadow Tor projects, both supernatural and historical.


F A Q

  • Can I join friends? - Yes. Either book your tickets together, or email us letting us know who you're with. We will group people together for the meals as best we can.
  • What time does it start? - Please arrive in time for 6:30, as meals will be served then, followed by the ghost walk, before returning to 50 for the paranormal investigation.
  • What about the weather? - This is an all-weather event, with most of it indoors and a half-hour walking tour.
  • What time is dinner? - Meals will be served first, at 6:30
  • Is there parking nearby? - Yes, there is paid parking. Please use the Main East Looe Car Park, beside the bridge.
  • Public transport? - Looe can be reached by train (Liskeard to Looe branch line) and bus (Liskeard 73 or Plymouth 10), BUT return services will finish before the event ends! Please plan accordingly.
  • Will I see a ghost? - We can't guarantee what people may see or feel; we can only hope.
  • Can I take photos/video? - Yes, please do, but please don't take flash photos during dark investigations, as the flash will blind others.
  • Can I bring my dog? - No, sorry. We love animals, but some may not. Unfortunately, please do not bring pets to events. With paranormal experiments and people moving about in semi-darkness, alongside food, it's unfair on the animals and the other attendees. Registered service animals are accepted.
  • What about mobility? - The tour and ghost investigation will take people on walks through Looe and around the building via some stairs, all in semi-darkness and on uneven ground. This reduces mobility access. As such, please plan accordingly.
  • What if I get frightened? - If you want to leave an area, simply speak to the nearest event team member at any time.
  • What are the included meals? - When booking, you have a choice of Starter and Main Course, with the option to add a Dessert course to follow your main meal.
